Miriam Oakes Obituary

Miriam Theresa (Murphy) Oakes, 70 of Argos. Indiana passed away March 24, 2019 at 7:45 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, Indiana. She had been in declining health. On November 3, 1948 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania she was born to William J. Murphy and Helen T. (Maudrake) Murphy. She moved to Argos, Indiana in December 2015; coming from Griswold, Connecticut.

On April 5, 1973 in Langhorne, Pennsylvania she married Stewart B. Oakes and together they shared nearly 46 years.

Mariam worked 33 years for the United States Naval Department in the Supply Department.

She was a graduate of St. Hubert’s Catholic High School, Philadelphia in the class of 1967.

She served her country in the United States Navy as a Communication Yeoman 3rd class from December 1, 1967 until she received her Honorable Discharge on October 23, 1970.

 

Miriam is survived by her Husband – Stewart Oakes, Argos, Indiana

Sisters – Mary Anne H. Laverdiere and husband Jean of Argos, Indiana; Eileen McGivern and husband Bill of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Theresa Hamilton and husband Dennis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Kathleen Robinson and husband Todd of Penn Station, Pennsylvania.

Brothers – William Murphy of Wisconsin; Larry Murphy and wife Christine of Schwenksville, Pennsylvania; Kevin Murphy and wife Skye of Rockland, Maine; and Jerry Murphy of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

She is preceded in death by her Parents; and Brother – Joe Murphy, and Sister – Helen Lucenko

 

Funeral Services will be held on January 23, 2020 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia with entombment at Arlington National Cemetery.
