Mary I. (Metheny) Spitler

Mary Irene (Metheny) Spitler, 98 of 635 Oakhill Ave., Plymouth, Indiana, formerly of the Argos community died on January 24, 2019 at 10:45 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, Indiana. On August 26, 1920 in Argos, Indiana she was born to Edgar Metheny and Grace (Williams) Metheny, and had lived most of her life in the Argos community.

On March 31, 1944 in Concord, California she married Ronald C. Spitler, where Ronald was serving in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Together they were blessed with 62 years before Ronald's passing on April 29, 2006.

Mary was a Housewife/Homemaker and worked at Hart/Schaffner/Marx in Rochester, Indiana for 24 years, retiring in 1988. After her retirement, she enjoyed quilting and made enough quilts so that each of her 12 grandchildren could have one.

Mary was a member of the Argos United Methodist Church all of her life, and involved with the Greene Township Homemakers Club. She was a graduate of Argos High School with the class of 1938.

Mary is survived by her Daughters Portia Wampler and her husband Barry of Bourbon, Indiana; Beverly Sprague and her husband Rick of Anderson, Indiana

12 Grandchildren and 19 Great-Grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her Parents; Husband; Son Terry Spitler, and 2 Grandsons – Brad Spitler and Noah Wampler; Sister – Margaret Knepper; and Brother – James Metheny

The family would like to thank the caregivers and staff at Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth for the compassionate care they gave to Mary over the last several years.

Friends may visit with the family on Monday January 28, 2019 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church, 570 N. Michigan St., Argos, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday January 28, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at the Argos United Methodist Church, 570 N. Michigan St., Argos, Indiana with Rev. Mary Hyer of the Argos United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Argos, Indiana.
