Jerry Lee Becker, 74 of Church St., Argos, Indiana died on July 2, 2018 at 9:01 p.m. at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana following a brief illness. On February 25, 1944 in Henry County, Indiana he was born to Robert A. Becker and Ernestine E. (Treber) Becker and had lived most of his life in the Argos community.
On December 16, 1967, he married Mary Lynn Winenger at the Walnut Church of the Brethren, Argos, Indiana.
Jerry worked for the Town of Argos for 38 years and was the Superintendent of Water and Sewage.
He was a graduate of Argos High School with the class of 1962. Jerry served his country in the United States Air Force from August 27, 1963 till he received his Honorable Discharge on March 8, 1967. He served on the Argos Fire Department and Argos EMS for 16 years. He was presented the John N. Hurty Service Award by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Jerry has been an active member of the Argos American Legion Post#68 since 1967. In 1979 Jerry was presented an outstanding community award of Vietnam era veterans by the President of the United States. Jerry always enjoyed being involved and had been a long time serving as the Master of Ceremonies for the Memorial Day Services at the Park in Argos.
He was a member of the Walnut Church of the Brethren and enjoyed helping with the Men’s Breakfast and Bible School.
Jerry is survived by his Wife – Mary Becker of Argos, Indiana
Sons – Lee Becker and wife Sherry of Argos, Indiana; and Greg Becker and wife Jennifer of Fort Wayne, Indiana
Grandchild – Devon Becker
Brothers – Dan Becker and wife Joy of Niles, Michigan; and Jeff Becker and wife Tina of Culver, Indiana
Sisters – Roberta Singery of Kennesaw, Georgia; and Pam Von Ehr of St. Petersburg, Florida
He is preceded in death by his Parents
Friends may visit with the family on Sunday July 8, 2018 from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Walnut Church of the Brethren Church, 5975 19th Rd., Argos, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday July 9, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Walnut Church of the Brethren Church, 5975 19th Rd., Argos, Indiana with Rev. Robert E. Rice Jr. Burial will follow at the Walnut Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Argos, Indiana with the United States Air Force Honor Guard and James Lowell Corey American Legion Post #68, Argos, Indiana conducting Military Honors.
